About Me

I🎙 Hey there! I’m Mara Finerty – and I’m head-over-heels in love with voice work. Why? Because to me, it’s the purest form of acting—just sound and story, emotion and imagination. The voice? It bypasses everything and goes straight to the heart. 💥

Whether it’s a zany commercial, a heartfelt narration, or a hard-hitting political ad,  I love bringing scripts to life with a blend of creativity, confidence, and a whole lot of fun. I’m quick on the mic, versatile across genres, make bold acting choices, take direction like a champ, and yes—I can improvise with flair. All recording, editing, and mastering is done right here in my pro-level studio.

🎶 My journey started with music—opera and classical voice, to be exact—before I jumped headfirst into theater at age 11 and film acting as a teenager. I’ve got a whole toolkit of voices and accents (seriously, try me!).

🌉 Born and raised in San Francisco, I now live in beautiful Sonoma Valley with Scout, my rescue husky mix (my trusty studio assistant!) After more than two decades performing across the SF Bay Area, at the Edinburgh Fringe, and with two companies of Les Misérables (yep—including the national tour!), I pivoted into the business world—HR exec, employment attorney, executive coach. That real-world experience gives me an edge when it comes to voicing corporate, educational, and e-learning projects with authenticity, empathy, and clarity.

— Jim Edgar - Just Ask Jim VO
Fantastic work! Great communication and fast delivery.
— Hello Robin – Hamburg, Germany
Mara was very professional and accommodating as our recording session was not confirmed until last minute. The client was really happy with the outcome and greatly appreciated Mara’s flexibility due to difference in time-zones. Would be happy to recommend Mara for any future voiceover bookings!
— Lauren Bailey – Voquent
As an avid audiobook listener, I’m very picky about the narrators I choose for the books that I write and publish. When I wrote Bloom, it was a labor of love and finding the right narrator to accurately convey the message and the meaning of all of the things that my main character went through was very important to me. Mara did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and bringing out the correct tone and emotion that I intended when I wrote the book. I’m so pleased with her performance of Bloom....
— Rebecca Benston (Robin Stone), Author & Publisher
At Orpheo we produce dozens of audio tours across our global offices every year in over 100 languages. We worked with Mara creating a long tour for the Center for Disease Control Museum in Atlanta.
Mara proved to be a delight to work with. She listened carefully to the client’s needs, paying particular attention to difficult words and phrases.
Ms. Finerty carefully analyzed each paragraph asking questions before spending time recording, resulting in much less downtime. She was always on time and produced a
wonderful product that both we and the CDC Museum are proud of.
At all times she was prompt, diligent, accurate and an overall joy to work with.
